More than a politician, Atal Bihari Vajpayee is a statesman. Here are his speeches made at different national and international forums from time to time on global politics, international situation and issues confronting humanity.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee: A Nationalist Statesman
Vajpayee is much more than a statesman. There is vision, there is commitment, and there is will power. He is beyond vices like greed and ambition. He attained the office without desiring for it and he left it without regret. His charisma, imagination and organization skills were exceptional, and he successfully steered coalition government in difficult period.
A nationalist at heart, he understands the country and has an instinctive feel for its needs. He understood the global recession of 1998-99 when he said, "We must grow faster. We simply have no other alternative". He took the bold decisions to strengthen rural economy, building a strong infrastructure and revitalising the human development programs. His programs and policies fully demonstrated his commitment to a strong and self-reliant nation to meet the challenges of the next millennium to make India an economic power in the 21st century. He ceaselessly worked for pluralism, development and modernisation. He set the good governance agenda on top of politics.
Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee emerged as international statesman with his pragmatic world outlook. Vajpayee made it a priority to assert India's status as a global power. He made India a nuclear power and established our nation’s ability to exercise its sovereignty without domination and fear. He was convinced about, “the world respects only the strong and has no patience for the weak.” A ‘pragmatic statesman’, Vajpayee has the ability to see beyond the traditional zero-sum outlook in world affairs. He wrote a new script of India’s foreign policy by reorienting her relations with major powers of the world and neighbors.
